    Let me just point you to a tutorial from our sister forum, you can actually try the newest version

    of windows 8 for free, see if you like it, it's just another OS with new things to learn.

    You should probably first run Microsoft's Upgrade Advisor to see if your computer is compatible with Win 7, and what version to install. My laptop, an older Dell Vostro, can only handle the 32-bit version.
