PC randomly freezes
Hey guys,
My custom built PC was started freezing randomly today. The mouse stops moving, the HDD stops responding, and Contol alt delete does nothing. What should I check first?

I had this issue a long time ago. Here's what I did to resolve this:
1) Deleted all unwanted, unnecessary files i.e., cookies, internet temp files, through CCleaner and by running command "prefetch" Run dialog.
2) Ran my AV to just be sure that there is No Malicious agent causing the failure.
3) Reinstalled OS as Sound card & USB were not responding (did installed Sound card's s/w)
After a fresh installing everything worked smoothly and its been now 2.3 years since that day.
Some of these problem happen because of below listed reasons:
System Memory Errors- As a number of modern systems and hard drives are running today without the Error Detection and Correction techniques on system memory, there are great chances of memory error. The memory error may corruption hard drive data structures or even the data.
System Timing Issues- Setting up the timing for cache or memory access so sharply, or using the hard drive interface transfer mode, which is so fast for your device or system, can lead to data loss. It can often be realized before it cause some amount of damage to your system and data.
System Resource Conflicts- A computer system have a number of peripherals, which use several system resources concurrently. Conflicts caused from the peripherals, which attempt to use same DMA (Direct Memory Access) channels, I/O addresses, or interrupt requests, may lead to data loss or data corruption.
I did a HDD error check, but found nothing. I really don't wanna have to do a fresh windows install,I've got coursework to do.
The problem's gone now. I think it must have been a problem with gigabyte's software; I had installed some more of their utilities, and ever since I uninstalled some the problems disappeared. The software was recommended for my system and I met the requirements, too. Their software always seemed a bit shabby to me anyway.
never install motherboard software, its almost always junk. Drivers yes from their website too. Throw cds out every time you get them. Always get drivers from manufacturer.
