Computer won't turn on after hibernation

I ran a clean boot to restore my HP laptop.

I hibernate it and then I turn it back on only to see a black screen.

It won't go any further than that. I end up having to hold on the power button to turn it off.

Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

If it means anything I have windows 8 (there forum wasn't helpful)

So the PC won't load Windows after a cold boot? (a boot that is after the laptop being unpowered momentarily)

No, it won't boot after being hibernated.

The hibernation was wokring fine till I did a clean reboot. Then I downloaded classic shell and now when I hibernate the laptop and turn it back on all it shows is a black black screen

Okay, I would try to update drivers, and bios, and then if that doesn't work I would try a clean install again.

Try system restore, choose a restore before the issue started.

    Hope this helps!

Try the system restore if you can. Otherwise, check HP's website for updates for your model. Often when I encounter issues with resuming from sleep it's a driver that went bonkers.

Though if those fail, you might want to try here

as your OS is Windows 8. :]

Run Automatic Repair - Run in Windows 8.

It should automate System Restore. If not run it from the Repair Options list manually.

When you say you did a Clean Boot, exactly what did you do and what do you wish to accomplish. You should be able to disable all startups in Task Manager except your AV.
