Is Windows 7 Killing Your Micro?

Don't get me wrong, I love W7, but I think some of the shortcuts they took out of Vista hamper the system. The first is the new and "improved" icons tray, where you used to the click < arrow and they spread accross like nice little soldiers they now appear in a box above, I feel that's more cumbersome than innovative.

Another problem is when you right click an icon, the "Close" button now appears roughly 2cm above where you clicked. On Vista/XP you used to right click and move your mouse a fraction and you could spam close on all your programs. Personal prefrence I'm guessing.

The problem is I guess these things are just killing my 'micro'. The overall worst part is the new taskbar itself, if you're using MSN it's a real pain to keep track of your conversations unless you unbind the icons again. Overall however I do enjoy the new features.

Just a topic of discussion, does anyone else feel the same?

click the arrow that brings up your little soldiers/click customize/ now click the box in the buttom left window-always show all incons and notifications on the taskbar

Ahh Lappy I know that, I just like it hiding certain ones and how they appear when you unhide them :)

Well, I think this is really just a matter of preference :P For me personally, seven has vastly improved my "micro". The thing I always vehemently disliked about the notification area in Vista is that the little notification icon hide feature was annoying, because it rarely hid what I actually wanted it to hide, and often hid what I didn't want it to hide. You had no control over that. I love the customization in 7.

As for the thing you mention about closing apps, I see your point. It was a minor convenient aspect of the old system. But regardless, I prefer the new system, so its preference I suppose :P.

The new taskbar is my favorite featue of windows 7. Its funny, because I frequently bring up the point to people that windows 7 makes it easier for me to manage my convos on MSN. As you said yourself, you can unbind the icons, which is not difficult in the slightest. The reason 7 makes it easier for me to manage convos is Aero peek. I like the convenience of being able to quickly hover over a preview of a window to see what someone typed, without actually switching from the app I'm using. I personally avoid using the keyboard if I do not have to, I've never been fond of keyboard shortcuts, so I find using aero peek being much better than going alt+tab to find a convo and see what someone wrote to me. I'm also quite sure that most casuals do not make use of keyboard shortcuts much either, so this works well IMO.

That's a good point nap, from the common users perspective it makes it greater for them. But I suppose it's prefence and use, my alt, ctrl, and tab keys are almost warn off, haha.

It took a bit of getting used to but once I'd added the Quick Launch toolbar, I like the new system.

Anyone notice how it doesn't save your settings sometimes? I did and it takes about three times of selecting "show icons and notification" in order to make something show up like it's supposed too and stay put.

I havn't noticed that, one of the stranger things that happened was when I renamed my call of duty icon on the desktop it would dissapear from view, not even "Sort > Name" etc would show it. I copied it, deleted the original, then renamed it and it worked. Strange.
