Windows 7: DVD Drive, explorer.exe and bad discs

DVD Drive, explorer.exe and bad discs

Does anyone know any tricks related to this?

When you put a cd in the drive that may not be in the best condition, and you go to copy something from it, it could hang forever trying to read the contents.

If you eject the cd or try to close the copy box, explorer.exe hangs. Using task manager, you can not end the process no matter how many times you try.

Does anyone know of a way to reset things without rebooting once this has happened? I've tried many things like disabling and enabling the drive but that doesn't do anything.

I'm in the process of putting tons of SVCDs containing music vids I ripped and collected for/from the scene back in the days on my HDD. Sometimes I get to a disc that isn't so good and this happens.
