Okay, I deleted it. I'm not going to mark this thread as resolved yet, since I may run into related issues in the future that I will append to this thread.
It is not a good idea to delete that. Some older programs, batch files and scripts depend on it to function properly. Consider setting/leaving the folder options to/on their default settings; then hidden folders like this would not appear to be a problem.
I think he's just talking about the desktop shortcut.
