    System Configuration settings

    using W7, 64 bit OS
    In System Configuration under the general tab "Selective Startup" is selected with the top two squares hilighted. Is that the correct option as opposed to "Normal Startup?"
    Under the Services tab there are 161 services ticked, is that also correct?

    This might help.
    Notice the check mark in lower left corner of the second picture.
    You do not want to mess with Microsoft Services.

    hi there, if your going to adjust msconfig then yes the selective startup boxes are correct.

    When changing any services or start up options in ms config always tick hide Microsoft services as you can easily break something by disabling them.

    Any other programs are up to you however you will want to leave things like your anti virus or any key windows services/programs running

    and unless your running dual boot or a custom setup, your boot sequence should be fine left alone

    161?! Holy cow that's a lot.

    I recommend going through Programs and Features - Uninstall or Change a Program
    and removing any programs/software you do not use.

    That is way to many services. I'm surprised your computer can do anything.
