Windows 7 gets a black screen with cursor, no desktop

Okay so I recently started up my computer and for some odd reason after the "welcome" screen I get the mouse cursor but no desktop. Even after waiting around for a few minutes, nothing came up. So I shut it down and started it in safe mode and it booted fine. Anybody know whats going on inside there? I really don't have the money to have a pro look at it even though that's the last line for me. Any help on this is GREATLY appreciated

Can you install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes, in Safe Mode if necesary?

If so and it cleans up infection but Win7 still won't start, try SFC /SCANNOW Command or if necessary from the Win7 disk or Repair CD use SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

If these fail then everything else that can be done is in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

okay tried the command prompt and a message came up saying "Windows resource protection could not start the repair service". What does that mean?

Did you first run the Malwarebytes scan in Safe Mode. If it won't install, update and run a full scan then try the WIndows Defender offline CD scan or one of the other bootable AV scans from Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

The reason is because Win7 will sometimes not repair if its badly infected, but might after disinfecting.

I'd also try running the SFC command from the Win7 disk Command Line which is needed to also run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times after confirming that the System Reserved (if you have it) or C is Partition Marked Active

okay ran malwarebyte and it found quite a few infected files. i checked them all off and it prompted me to restart my computer in order to get rid of everything. once it restarted it still gave me the black screen. What should I do next?

I would run it again, making sure it was updated which requires Safe Mode with Networking. Then try SFC /SCANNOW Command and System Restore.

If this fails boot into System Recovery Options on Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk to confirm 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred) or C is Partition Marked Active then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times .

This should automate System Restore and SFC, but if not run System Restore from the Options list and SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt.

From there everything else that can possibly be done is detailed in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The Win7 installer disk is provided in both tutorials.

    Hello

Correct the ACL permissions of the following key to the default permissions:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

rewrite a REG_SZ string called Shell and set it to explorer.exe. even if its all ready explorer.exe .

and here is a video explaining how to do that : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUGLXNX0hlA
    good luck

Hello, I had the same problem, and it worked for me, thanks!
    Any idea why this happens...?
I had my computer like that after I normally shut it down an hour ago, when I started my computer later:
Black Background, no desktop, no start menu. Only one explorer window.
Could it be an issue with my SSD Harddrive? I heard they are not the most reliable, and mine is already a few years old now, always doing a good job. Almost 9TB of data have been written to it, as Samsung SSD Magician shows.
