PC freezing & cursor changing shape (mode)

    W7 64 bit.
In last couple of days PC has suddenly become unreliable ... screen freezes, cursor locked ... ctl+alt+del will not work.
When this happens found I can recover ... but often only for 1 or 2 mins ... by simply plugging something into USB port .. as soon as you get the "Bing Bong" device found noise, screen unfreezes.

Sometimes wait 30 sec to a min and PC unfreezes.

Also notice PC will run for an Hr or so OK, then get intermittent errors of working cursor changes to window resize mode (double ended arrow) and then work is erratic until it recovers.
Also it will frequently 'disappear' as soon as you move to an active window, or turn into text entry 'vert bar' cursor for no reason.

Both Kyb & Mouse are USB ... and normally via a KVM ... have moved to direct plug in to eliminate KVM.

Sometimes hitting 'ESC' several times will return control.

I have reinstalled mouse driver .... but no change.

    Hi sargan,

I will suggest to run antivirus and Malwarebytes to check for any issues. Also, check if your PC is getting heated up. Check for temps.

If AV comes back clean then could try system restore to a point before issues started

I have also tried running sfc \scannow from administrator in safe mode ..... run it many times still getting errors. (have saved them as txt file as tutorial)
However there are a great many errors - too many for me to follow.

In tutorials sect ... I was going to try Install repair ... but this sect blocks me:
If you changed the default location of a user account's profile folder, then you will need to change it back to the default C:\Users location first.
If you moved the default location of a user folder, then you will need to change it back to the default C:\Users\(user-name) location first.

My users profiles are on separate HDD and at 230GB exceed the free space on C:\ where OS is installed.
There was a comment about excl music ... so if that was not moved it would only bring count down to 190GB ... still too much
