Start Menu - typing program name is not working

    Hi there,

I'm still new to 7, but for some reason when I want to type a program name in Start Menu doesn't seem to work or doesn't find the program.

For example typing this is not coming up like on the screen below:

    basically I get: Nothing found.

Is this something to do with searching preferences?

    Thanks

but also typing appdata brings up some other search results and not like in vista where it takes me to AppData location straight away. WTF?

I've only ever done you're examples in the run command and not the start menu search so I don't know if it worked in vista or not. But in 7 it seems you'll need to open up run

i assumed the start menu search was only for jumping to programs and files like it said

You are using the RTM version? Because I don't believe "userpasswords2" is in the RTM version. At least I do not get it. However the run box works. netplwiz.exe is the same thing as userpasswords2 so try that.

You can use netplwiz instead of control userpasswords2 to open Advanced User Accounts.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply guys. Netplwiz indeed works, however it's not all about this one. Like I mentioned in vista I could type "appdata" and it took me to my AppData without opening run.
Obviously I have to get use to it now... and yes my 7 is rtm 7600

In order for me to get appdata I have to enter
    shell:appdata

    http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/shell-commands-to-access-the-special-folders/

But if I recall that was my situation in Vista as well. Another workaround is to create a folder with shortcuts to folders (I have numerous ones for shell:.... and CP items) in a folder. Index the folder and they will pop right up.

    yes shell:appdata

    or Start > Run %appdata%

(Win+R will also bring up a run box)

    Hi,

thanks for your advices. I knot how to run these things, I just want to know why can't I do it from Start Search in 7, that's all.
It obviously depends on the 7 version..
