    Boot order

I just installed Linux on my Windows 7 computer with a dual boot option. When I start the computer it wants to boot into Linux Mint by default, how do I change the boot order so Windows 7 will boot by default.

    Thank you,
    Len

Here is the solution to change Boot Order. I never tried this but hopefully it should work.

It dependsif you installed on separate HD's, in which case I'd boot from the BIOS boot order or Boot Menu key.

If on the same HD it depends if you used GRUB or are using a Windows Boot Menu as described in Dual Boot - Windows 7 and Linux - Windows 7 Forums and Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7. If you are using GRUB and can't get it to Dual Boot, then I'd uninstall it and configure a Win7 boot menu as given.

If you installed Mint to its own partition, it generally then boots directly into Mint, with no option to boot into Windows. If you are seeing Windows and Mint on the same boot screen, it is likely you installed Mint from INSIDE Windows -- something know as Mint4Win. In that case, you have to edit the Windows BCD to set Mint to be the default.

I installed mint without using the Windows Installer. I made a boot-able USB stick and then installed Mint within Mint.

When you install Mint on a Windoze machine Mint installs GRUB and sets mint as the first (auto) boot option. If you install additinal versions of Linux they well be added to the boot menu in the order they are installed.

Shouldn't make any difference at all. I have Linux installed on both separate hdd's and one single partitions. I know Mint, Zorn, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu and Fedora all use GRUB or GRUB2, use the boot menu and well list the Win install if on the same or different hdd. At least the last two or three versions well do this.

I'm pretty sure that Linux offers (or, offered; It's been a while) a way to change that from within the OS. Check in the Admin tools in your Mint setup, and see if there is a boot manager util that will allow you to change that. As I say, it's been a while since I messed with ANY flavor of Linux, but I remember that LiLo and Grub (depending on the flavor) were both accessible from within the OS.
