    Can I add a location for start menu to search for programs in C:/ ?

    Hi,

    I'm still fairly new to windows seven from XP and find a lot of my programs are not being found using start menu search.. Which locations does it use to search for programs or can it only find programs that users have created start menu shortcuts for ? I don't often create start menu and desktop shortcuts just access programs from C:/ to keep things clean.

    I would have thought it searches from several different locations including program files in C:/ directory ?

    Hello Siwftkidd,

    You might see if this may be able to help with your search results from the Start Menu as well.

    Search - Have More Accurate Search Results

    Hope this helps, :)

    Not sure if this will help or not but check your PATH environment variable. Add the directories you want to have looked in, see if that helps.

    Control Panel, System, Advanced system settings, Advanced tab.
    Click on Environment variables.
    In the System variables area, scroll down to Path and double click on it.
    Add the full path to the directories containing the programs.

    Be very careful doing this. Do not wipe out what is already there.
    Separate each directory with a semicolon ;

    I use a free and very good search utility called Agent Ransack by Mythicsoft. It can be downloaded from the following site;

    There are those who post in this forum that prefer using the Windows search feature.
