A tool which can repair the partition table is at the end of Step 9 in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

Everything else that can be tried to start Win7 is also there.

Thanks, its an ongoing thing with me. It just means I can only sit for so long before it gets even more pain full. I just space my computer time out during the day. I'd give what Gregrocker posted a try. He's a very knowledgeable guy.

Thanks Greg and Alpha. Sorry to hear about your back problem Alpha, hope it may get better with time.
Can I download that tool and put it on a stick Greg, and then put it into a slot of the desktop? I cannot start Windows 7 on my desktop, it doesn't recognize the OS. I can use the disk though, so can get in the BIOS. (I am using the laptop to contact you.)

It's chronic back pain and I have spondylitis in my cervical spin, its an everyday deal for me. I have not so bad days and sometimes not so good days. I have meds that help but they usually make me drowsy and I don't think so good when I'm taking them so I only take them when things are real bad. Anyway on to your problem. I've used Partition Wizard in the past to do what Windows Disk management couldn't. There is an ISO available on their web site to make a bootable CD. You should be able to make a bootable thumb drive with it also. It might be easier to just burn a CD or DVD from the ISO though.

Thanks for that Alpha. Sorry to hear that about your back.
I just looked at my C (ssd) drive on the disk, all my files are there. The 2tb hhd does not show. However, when I try to run anything apart from "repair or new installation" I get the message that I have no OS. I tried to get to the control panel, but that does not exist either. It shows up, but I cannot use it.

If you booted from the Partition Wizard disk you won't be able to run any thing on the Windows drive. Windows isn't running so you can't load Control Panel, Disk Management or any thing like that. You are limited to what ever options PW gives you. I'm not sure how much time your prepared to spend on this but if it was me, I'd likely have just recovered what files I need to keep from that drive and reinstalled Windows by now. Doing a clean install is not that big a deal for me so I only spend so much time trying to fix Windows when things go south. After a while I find it easier to just start over with a clean slate. I've only used PX once or twice to resize partitions so I'm no expert with that program. Wait and see what Gregrocker has to offer. Another option is to go to the Drive makers web site and look for a utility to test the drive for errors or problems. Most manufacturers offer up free diagnostic tools to diagnose a drive for errors. Even new stuff fails, it doesn't happen very often but it does happen from time to time.

I burned the wizard to disk, the desktop won't start the disk, tried the hints given but no luck. Can I do just a clean install on the ssd? I have never done a clean install. I do have an image backup on an external drive. I have a lot on this machine.

By what method did you burn the wizard to disk? When you look at that disk in explorer does it show files and folders of just one big ISO file?
Yes you can clean install just the SSD. My laptop has a 128 GB SSD for Windows and a 256 GB SSD for my Data. When I do a clean install I just wipe the 128 gig drive and leave the 256 as is. Everything I want saved is on the 256 GB Data drive. You could try this, Repair Install before actually doing this, Clean Install Windows 7

EDIT: going to call it a night, will check your progress again tomorrow.

Which step in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start is it you are having problems with? Everything is compiled there that can be done to boot unbootable Win7, leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you need help on a specific steps just ask back saying which one and what the problem is. You can learn how to perform most steps by clicking on the blue tutorial link.
