Files Have Randomly Disappeared and Icons Missing

Hey Everyone,

I am new to this forum so sorry if I accidentally do something wrong. Another thing, I am not that technologically inclined with Windows so please bear with me if I have no idea what you are talking about.

Now to the problem, one day before the issue my computer gave me a threat detected in the Program file and it asked me if I wanted to remove threat so naturally I said yes. The day after I opened my PC to find that all the files on my desktop had mysteriously vanished and so had the pins on my taskbar. The pins and applications in the start button had all been replaced by generic white sheet icons and when you click these icons it comes up with the message "The item you selected is unavailable. It might have been moved, renamed or removed". Furthermore, Every folder in the applications part of the start button was empty! I ran an antivirus check and 2 threats were detected and I removed them (forgot to check what the threats were).

I think my applications and files might still be there (because I am currently on Google Chrome which is a so-called missing application) but I have no clue on how to find the files and return them to their proper location. Please help me.

Thank you, in advance, for all the help.

Do this System Restore . Go back in time to a date/time when you didn't have the problem.

Next time write it down.

I think Windows 7 doesn't know how to handle shortcuts(?)
lnk - Shortcut link (LNK) files.
Open that link. Maybe reboot afterwards. Problem solved? If not:

Install this as well: exe - Executable application files.

They were both generic trojan horses. Does that mean anything?

Could be anything. What anti4us software are you running?
