    Taking ownership did zip all.

All I'm trying to do is swap out some very annoying application wav files for some other not quite as "nails on chalkboard" annoying ones.

Went though the changing ownership process and noticed "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" although letting me toggle on becomes unchecked on "apply".

Try again is a failure loop so anyone got suggestions.

Oh, and before I forget, Microsoft Tech support already told me to move UAC to "Never Notify" and leave it there when I called about network issues, after rebooting it seems to be off as they wanted it.

Two and a half hours on the phone to India later the solution was to delete all "start-up and services" from the registry added by the likes of Catalyst Control Center etc, in other works nothing many many users don't have as standard.

Yet I still have to go through this "ownership" nonsense to swap a couple of wav files around?

Cant help but wonder, would enabling the true admin account and switching to it now cut all this rigmarole?

    Welcome to Seven Forums, AnotherUser.

Activating the true admin account should cut all the 'rigmarole', but it is not recommended to use this as a normal account. I would log in to the admin acct. and make the changes and then log out/in to my user acct. If you leave the admin acct activated, make sure it has a strong password.

Just because you take ownership of a file, that doesnt actually give you permissions that you didnt have before. It gives you the ability to CHANGE the permissions.

You need to add yourself in on the permissions.

Sorry maybe I wasn't clear. The files are the irritating alarm wav's from Avast.

Taking full ownership on my joke "Admin" account, applying full auditing privileges to the same account and confirming complete control gives the...

try opening explorer as admin. go to start menu, type explorer in the search box, then right clikc on it and click run as Administrator. then try it all again. That should give you sufficient permissions.
