Have you tried downloading in IE? Also maybe try and temporarily lower the security settings of IE and download a trusted file????

It's a possibility, though not very likely. Disconnect from the internet, turn off Kasper and give it a go.
I turned off the kaspersky & IDM finally worked so indeed kaspersky is blocking it, but now I cant find a way to unblock it, I have added IDM to the exception rule but kaspersky wont let it start.

So the problem is solved but partly.
    Thanks

add a exclusion rule in kaspersky not to block IDM that should do the job.
    settings>Threats & exclusions>(Right hand) settings>add rule> browse to IDM.exe & allow all

in some cases apart from adding the exclusion rule, IDM needs to be added to trusted zone "also" then it works perfectly fine, hope this help others facing this problem.

Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not..

what a HEADACHE!!!! i just got my new laptop, it came with windows7 (64 bit) installed. so i had to install all the programs on it; everything was going great until i started to get that annoying error msg. First i tried playing with the security setting, change accessibility from advanced setting, and even tried the unblocked security from file property as suggested. NOTHING... same error. I even brought it to my company IT guy, not even him could figure it out. Later, i thought of removing the program that i thought caused this whole mess. Nailed it! My problem was caused by a corrupted antivirus software i had previously installed mcafe. im sure you all know my solution, of course, uninstall that piece of junk. Now this computer is working like a dream . :) hope this helps
