SSD Upgrade

ok so heres the deal. My PC just crashed and I had to reinstall 300GB worth of stuff. I have my PC 100% done now, however I had the idea to give my mom my laptop for xmass because I really don't use it anymore. however, my laptop has my SSD in it. how would I be able to take my SSD out and format it then install it into my PC then transfer JUST windows over to it so I can have my current HDD as storage? my SSD is only 120gb so I cant clone the HDD.

I REALLY REALLY DO NOT want to install 300GB worth of stuff again!

will I be able to do that?

I assume from your post that you have Windows on your PC HDD & you wish to move the SSD from your laptop & use it in your PC.
Is your PC HDD partitioned so the Windows has it's own partition, if is then you can clone that partition to your SSD using Macrium Reflect or a similar program.

There should be no problem getting the OS onto the SSD. You would have to first move your user data out of the C partition though.

SSD - Install and Transfer the Operating System

Post a picture of your current disk management and we'll see which approach is best.

Why would you have to reinstall 300GB worth of stuff? I seriously doubt you have 300GB worth of programs/applications......I'm guessing most of it is in the Users folder in downloads, music, movies, etc. A full install of Win 7 with updates and drivers is about 30-35GB and with programs probably less than 50. Also, things install so fast on an SSD it wouldn't take much time to do a fresh install.

what im going to do is delete ALL my user data (games, programs etc) then clone it to the SSD and then reinstall games and programs.

That may be more than required.

im givinr my laptop to my mom because I don't use it anymore. hers is litterly falling apart. the screen fell off the hinges and cracked all the plastic. I gain a perfectly working SSD out of it. shes getting my old backup HDD to put in the laptop.

ok so I got windows by its self and formatted the SSD so its just 1 active primary partition "has no drive letter". how do I now clone my HDD to my SSD? ive used the Western Digital last time, but I cant seem to find the program anymore....
