imgburn formatting BD-RE

I have spoilt a batch of verbatim BD-RE,s by allowing IMGburn to attempt t0 format them. Half way through the attempt IMGburn notice says operation failed. Now no other burner will accept them, actually they cause the PC to crash. I have since learnt that I should use another programme to format the disc and then IMGBURN will burn the ISO. Funnily enough Windows disc image burner will burn an ISO on the Disc without formatting being obvious. Then ImGburn will work to put another ISO over it. Unfortunately in my case the Windows programme treats my BD-RE as a BD-R and only records the once, so I would have to go back to IMGBURN. Can anyone advise if it is possible to repair the problem left by Imgburn's attempt tp format.

I was thankfully successful in regaining my BD-RE disc by doing a full erase with Nero 11.( I think I tried various burning programs, including specific Eraser programs to do a full erase. I would also think the burning drive also matters in that it should be able to recognise a BD-RE with spare sectors wrongly annexed by ImgBurn flouting the standards during its formatting process. In my case the optical drive is Liteon iHBS 112 2 that successfully did a full erase retrieving my BD-RE)

So obviously the solution is to try various programs to do a full erase and also try it on various burners.

Thanks Jumanji for your quick reply. Previous to using this new batch of Verbatim BD-RE discs, IMGBURN has always burnt to older BD_RE,s successfully. I can only assume (Rightly or wrongly) that the dye in these discs has been changed and that IMGBURN cannot cope with the change. I will contact my friends to see if they have Nero 11 and see if they can format the un-usable discs for me. I don't think it is worth the cost of Nero11 to cure a few discs. I can use any new discs I buy by simply using Windows disc image programme to burn the first time and then after use IMGBURN to rewrite. I only produce two or three videos a year since I retired from the business so whatever I buy now is for amateur use only. I'm on YouTube as RoyfromDurham. Regards

You may check the Media ID with VSO Inspector VSO Inspector: free CD, DVD and Blu-ray scanning reporting tool for testing your medias and burners and that should tell you who the actual disc manufacturer is.

License List - Disc Manufacturer ID & Media Type ID Licensee List

I have two Verbatim BD-RE DLs (bought in amazon.com) and a few Verbatim BD-RE Single Layer discs bought in India and both have the same Media ID and Made in Japan. In general you should prefer to buy Verbatim discs DVDs/BDs made in Japan. (Verbatim may be getting it done in other countries too.)

I am not advocating that you should only use Nero 11 to do a full erase. (That was the one that worked for me.) There are many free burner programs like CDBurnerXP, Free Any Burn - a good one The Official Free Any Burn Website etc., which you may try and check whether you hit the sweet spot.:)
