Movie files not played from 2nd Local Disk

    Hello everyone,

I started experiencing an odd incident. My movie files from my 2nd internal hard drive (which is a physical hard drive, not a partition that contains my multimedia files) does not play anymore.

My transfer speeds are fine, and I can access my other items like my pictures, documents etc. Just not my movie files. Whenever I double click on a movie file, I see the blue progress bar slowing moving towards the right, and once it finishes, my movies still don't play...

Also, if I right click on my movies, I keep getting the spinning blue circle and then it would say "Windows not responding.." And then if I really wait, it will work for the one movie, but all the other movies won't work..I never had this happen to me...

    Any help?

    Hi, thanks for advice.

I already tried chkdsk and everything was normal, no failures or anything. I have access to everything else, just not my movies...

I would say those files are corrupted. Make a new folder on the disk and copy 1 movie from you system disk to that folder. Then see whether that plays.

Yep, they all play..I just have to wait a long time...

Can it be a loose connector? Or a program stopping it from playing?

Try another player - e.g. VLC. That will show us whether it is the player or the disk.

    Download VLC Media Player 2.1.2 (32-bit) - FileHippo.com

Tried both VLC and WMP with no success.

If I wait for the spinning blue icon to stop, then my movie works. But I have to do this for each individual movie. Which before, I play the movie and it works..

Again, all of my other files work. And my movies work, just super slow...

I am running chkdsk with "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"

Furthermore, while running chkdsk like I previously mentioned, I can not longer access my 2nd Local Disk Hard Drive. Is this normal? And in Disk Management it says I have all of the memory (442GB since it is a 500GB HDD) available..

A 500GB disk should show as 465GB in disk management. 442GB is odd.

Why does my 2nd hard drive only say NTFS now? It is still in the shkdsk stage though.

Currently, it has 131909 free clusters and counting...
