    Machine not booting-up?

Mate of mine has an HP Pavillion running Windows Vista. The problem is that the machine starts the boot up process and then freezes with just the progress bar and Microsoft Corporation showing. Have run anti-virus, anti-spyware. Windows Update is upto date. The machine starts great in Safe Mode but when it comes out of safe mode a blank screen. Could someone help please.

    bonesy,
Could you post the spec's and a picture of the inside for us. When did this start happening and did your friend add, download or do anything at the time things changed? Are all the MS updates installed and can you check on all the mobo and other drivers.

Did you open it up, what does it look like inside. I would open it up after turning off and disconnecting everything and have a look around, clean and make unmake and make all connections including GPU, HDD, Optical and Mobo connections just to be sure all contact points are made and made well. Then hook back up and report back.

It may be one of the startup programs. Get into the system in safe mode and disable all the startups (in msconfig). Very often the culprit is the AV program.
