I know how to reset things outside win7. But.....
    • Disablīng "startup items" doesn't freeze win7. Nor does it crash win7.
    • Disabling ALL services .... win7 still boots. (just tested it).
None of the F8 recovery items make you boot succesfully. Only "repair your computer" works. No "restore points" on system.

I gonna investigate how to force "normal boot"
    Ok, thank you very much!
Can't find in registry where the settings are. But even if you disabled them... the system should boot fine (I just tested it).

Maybe AVAST is causing the problem you now have(?) avast! Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear for avast! Removal
But how to uninstall it from a unbootable system... I don't know.

Yes, it is quite the predicament I'm in. And I agree with you, it shouldn't (as far as I know) stop my PC from being bootable, but doing so allowed me to boot in but froze the login. I also tried the Avast uninstall utility in the windows session prior to my PC going kaput.

Thank you for all your help, and happy holidays.

So you DID run the avast uninstall utility already. Did pc boot succesfully (maybe only once) afterwards? Maybe other forum members know how to fix the problem

    Yes I did, using safemode.
No, it was unbootable after the restart.
