how do I get rid of "select a file to preview"?

I was working as usual with the "computer" the file manager / explorer but suddenly I got a new column, "select a file to preview" which I have tried hard to get rid of but failed.

Where in Windows 7 can I opt for image files to be shown in my computer as previews of the content instead of an icon?

Hello netadict,

It sounds like you turned on the preview pane. If so, then turning it off will get rid of the "Select a file to preview" pane on the right side in explorer.
Preview Pane - Turn On or Off
You can turn on thumbnail previews to see them instead of icons of folders and image files.
Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable
Hope this helps,
Shawn
