Win 7 professional: xp side created its own password. I'm locked out

My virtual xp, locked me out after 4 hours of logging bookkeeping in Quickbooks which keeps its workbook file with the program which is in xp. I have tried most of the password fixes, but none seem to work. I have been using the computer for about 5 years without any passwords. I don't really need the virtual machine and if I could FIND the file I need through Windows 7, I could take it to another XP machine and use it with the same program there. I just need the file and would prefer a separate XP computer to a the slow virtual machine. I use xp to continue with my older expensive programs. Thanks for any advice.

Try to locate the virtual hard disk file (on the host). Its location depends on your particular virtualization program you're using, your file should be inside it. To extract it, you may use a second virtual machine, with whatever OS you like to temporary access the filesystem, or mount it in the real machine. Windows on its own can read and attach .VHD files though disk management, showing the whole virtual OS as if it were a local drive.

Thanks, I just have downloaded a program called VHD Attach which was recommended to me, but it would not attach the Windows vhd file, which I found in Program files. It is over a gig in size.
