64-bit slower than 32-bit..?

Just another update, bringing up Performance on Windows Task Manager, im just running the usual apps: Windows Live Messenger, Firefox and Flash CS4. My CPU usage is always above 90% and most often at 100% with my RAM usage always at 1.50GB but this doesnt seem right?

I did that but there isnt actually anything. Firefox is taking up a big chunk but not 100% and I cant have any viruses considering I formatted less than 24 hours ago and havent been on any dodgey websites with Eset Smart Security 4 being the first thing I installed.

I might just go back to 32-bit.

If your CPU is running at 100%, something is wrong, AND task manager has to show what it is. I seriously doubt this is the fault of the OS. It sounds like an app gone amuck. My first guess would be the security package you installed. Take it off, install Microsoft Security Essentials and see if the problem persists.

I would just switch to 32 bit If i were you, since you only have 3 gb of ram. 64 bit is barely using .5 gbs if it is true that the most 32 bit can use is 3.5 despite if you have 4gb and it shows up on a 32 bit os.

But before you do, find out whats wrong and why its at full load, and you did say you just installed. You might have indexing at some max indexing. Its what comes to mind, and it could your AV. Try to find out this way you could help someone out later on also.

As many say, you should not notice a difference unless the program is designed for 64bit. Or if you have 6 GB of ram, which in most cases still won't speed up because 99% of programs are designed to run only upto 3.5 GB because they are 32bit apps. So no win. I find with customers it is pointless to run 64bit due to mainly lack of many printer drivers. The super speed boost from jamming as much ram in as possible is psychological.

I switched from 32-bit to 64-bit aswell this weekend. I did notice a performance decrease, especially with the boot. I also have a notebook with 3GB ram (Intel T8300 @ 2.4Ghz, Nvidia 9600M GT, 250GB 7200 RPM HDD), but at booting it seems way slower then the 32-bit version of Windows 7.

I installed al drivers and have no explanation mark in the device manager. I think I'm going back to 32-bit this week.
