How to get a cheap license for Windows 7?

I've been happy with Windows XP, but with support coming to an end, I'll have to move to Windows 7.

I have a newer PC that has Linux and will support Windows 7, but I need a license for Windows 7. I'm just wondering if there are any options for getting a cheap license for Windows 7?

A year ago (maybe longer), a friend of mine was able to get 4 licenses for Windows 7 as a family pack, just wondering if there is any similar option still available today?

If it helps, I've got kids in high school if there are any kind of student discounts available.

    Thank you for your time

If it doesn't have at least 4 GB RAM, you're in a squeeze.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

@Margrave, yes, the PC I am looking at putting Windows 7 on does have the correct hardware specifications.

@AddRam, I was just reading the product descriptions for OEM software. It says Windows 7 "cannot be transferred to another computer once it is installed." Am I reading this right in that if down the road, I buy a new computer, I would not be able to take this OEM copy of Windows 7 and uninstall it from this PC and move it to the new computer? In other words, it really is a one time use

Yes that`s what oem means. But, Let`s say you have to replace the motherboard, you could give microsoft a call and they might help you out, but no you can`t keep moving the oem license from pc to pc.

You can get a COA off evilbay, some risk involved if you encounter q dishonest seller. I have bought COA's off the bay and I've had very good results. I buy from sellers with high feedback's and 100% rating. I paid $60 USD for the last COA I bought, 64 bit Home Premium version.
