Re-Installed Windows 7 using recovery partition, system is slow now

Hi, I re-installed Windows 7 using Dell recovery partition, but I think my laptop has become a bit slower now When I start windows, after Windows7 start logo, i get a black screen for about 20-40 seconds, then a black screen with cursor for around 10-15 seconds and then I get the login screen. Also when I click on softwares like CCleaner, it takes time to open, which is odd because before i re-installed windows, CCleaner was working perfectly fine. Also there was this (default) program running at start up, and the location of that program was unknown, I deleted it.

I am using Bitdefender Internet Security and Windows is also updated.

I'd be really grateful if someone helps me find out what exactly is wrong with my laptop. thanks!

Why did you perform the system recovery? Were you having issues with the laptop? If you performed a system recovery onto a failing HD for instance then the new slowness could be because of the new system was written to bad sectors causing slowness in areas where it wasn't slow before.

Yes, I was having issues with system (BSOD, computer not shutting down, starting itself, etc) so I used the recovery option, because I didnt get the CD with my laptop.

I would check your Event Viewer to see if you see any HD errors. A failing HD could definitely cause BSOD's and cause the PC to be slow.

Click on the Start button, type "eventvwr" without the quotes in the search box, hit the enter key. This should open the Event Viewer. Double click Windows Logs then click on system. Look for any errors pertaining to your hard drive.

Would be worth running the DELL diagnostic tools from F12.

Instead of using the Recovery Partition which has all kind of programs you don't want, you could do a Clean Install Windows 7 In the tutorials it tells you where to go to download the Windows 7 ISO so that you can burn a DVD of it. Just be sure you have your Product Key because you will need to enter that after the install. As these other guys are telling you, you could have a hardware problem. Eliminate that possibility before the Clean Install.
