Hybrid Sleep problems, time went back, notification icons invisible...

Hi,

I just tried to use Hybrid sleep on my computer and it went all weird, I tried to re-power the system via mouse / keyboard and it started to boot up (my g25 wheel turned on and calibrated, my mouse and keyboard's lights came on...etc)

However, my monitors didn't turn. I had to the power button to force the PC off and then when I restarted my time had gone back like 8 hours (thus making https connections throw errors, made Copy go wrong, steam went wrong and dropbox went wrong, skype conversation history was wiped, antivirus programs lost their definitions...)

I fixed the time and had to use CCLeaner to fix the notifications problem and manually had to redownload definitions for antivirus programs.

I assume I have either a bios setting incorrect on my ASUS P5Q-PRO motherboard or it's something to do with my operating system running on an Agility 3 SSD

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
- Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Does the PC work correctly with sleep and hibernate if you aren't using HYBRID sleep?
I've read it's often a GPU driver issue that causes sleep problems.
You can try updating your GPU driver.
If you have the latest driver, a previous version may work better and fix the issue.

I haven't tried sleep or hibernate on their own yet.

I've just enabled Repost on S3 resume, hopefully that'll fix it. I'm sure my bios could be set so much better for my system but I have no idea what to do with them

Yea, using S1 vs. S3 sleep mode in BIOS can make a difference in my experience.
I test that sleep and hibernate work correctly on their own before using HYBRID.

Nope, the Repost on S3 Resume didn't help at all, here is what the notification tray looks like:

Did you try turning off HYBRID, and testing sleep and hibernate on their own?
HYBRID does both a sleep AND hibernate when the PC goes to sleep...
Did you try a different GPU (video) driver?

I can't tell from your screen print what the problem is.
If the notification area icons are not the same as before going to sleep, you should include 2 screen prints - before and after sleep/wakeup.
Are you saying the PC did sleep/wakeup, but the windows session (icons) are not the same after a wakeup?

You can insert images directly into SF posts, so a 3rd party site is not needed.

I don't like clicking on 3rd party sites to see something, so I often don't even look at those images ...
I trust SF as I've posted here many times ...

I tried sleep on it's own and that works perfectly fine.
I tried hibernation on it's own and that worked fine.

Hybrid however, when I wake it none of the monitors come on so I have to forcefully shut it down by holding the power button which when I boot the system back up again the icons are messed up, dropbox requires me to relog in, antivirus's have lost their definitions, the time has changed to an incorrect time, copy has broken, https security certificates are broken... etc until I update the time, use ccleaner to clear notification cache and then reboot.

I updated the GPU driver and still it didn't work on Hybrid

As for the images, here's a second image of what it looks like when it's working correctly down there: I tried sleep and hibernate, both work fine on their own.

As for imgur, it was a direct link to an image hosted on possibly one of the biggest free image sites out there (reddit & stackexchange both use the service) I've added bbcode tags to the images.

I also seem to of lost my access to my DVD-Drive's, it's gone even in the bios O_o

OK,

See if restarting Explorer fixes the icon issue ...
Explorer - Add "Restart Explorer" to Desktop Context Menu

See if you have the same problem using only 1 monitor.

I have an "odd" config and occasionally have seen something similar ...
I have 2 PCs, connected to 2-3 monitors, with 2-3 KB/Mice (wired and wireless), using a KVM switch...
meh

If and when I see an issue like this I can fix it by:
- Changing the input device on the monitor/TV
- Changing the input device on the KVM switch
- Restarting Explorer
- Powering on/off "devices"

I only see an issue like this a few times per year, so it's an annoyance to me, but not an every day problem ...
I rarely turn off anything anymore, and maybe I'm learning I should turn off and restart more often ...
My PCs, printers, scanners, modem, router, STB, etc. are always on, and hopefully "sleep" when they are idle.
Worst case for me - power cycle device(s) to correct a problem.

I've not seen your exact issue, so my suggestions might just be a temporary workaround if they help.
If none of this helps, you might consider using a trace:

Hey,

I tried the explorer restart but that did nothing I too have a KVM Switch with 3 Monitors, 2 Mice and 2 Keyboards.

Any idea where my DVD-Drives have gone, something relating to the hybrid sleep problem has lost my dvd-drives :S

You do have a lot of icons in your notification area that I don't use ...
Try starting with a clean startup and see if that helps.
