Can a Win 7 Home Pre. serial work on a Win 7 Ultimate? I just purchased a copy of Win 7 Home Pre. Upgrade (Student Deal) and now a buddy of mines is going to lend me his copy of Win 7 Ultimate. Will my Win 7 Home Pre. serial work on a Win 7 Ultimate? or do I need to purchase me a serial for Ultimate? | My System Specs |

your home serial will not work on ultimate, you need a key for the ultimate edition to get ultimate. to be honest, i wouldnt waste my money on ultimate and get the pro if you need windows xp mode, unless you need muti language and boot to vhd image support. other than those 2 things they are the same | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 (Build 7068) |

I'm sorry, questions like this make me laugh.
If it worked like that people would buy Home Premium and just download a Ultimate DVD on the internet, and use it that way. MS would not ever allow something like this. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom | Whitebox OS Windows 7 Ultimate, OS X 10.7, Ubuntu 11.04 CPU Intel E6750 @ 3.80GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L (Revision 1.1) Memory 2x2GB & 2x1GB (6GB) OCZ Reaper 1066MHz @ 1080MHz Graphics Card EVGA nVidia GTX 260 896mb (216 Core) FTW Edition Sound Card Realtek ALC888 Monitor(s) Displays 21" VIZIO TV Screen Resolution 1680x1050 @ 60Hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless S520 Mouse Logitech Wireless S520 - Microsoft Wireless Arc Mouse PSU Corsair 750W Case NZXT Nemesis Elite Cooling Thermaltake SpinQ Hard Drives Western Digital WD6401AALS - 640GB

But perhaps the poster is only interested in using the Ultimate disk to install Home Premium. . . That is possible. You have to edit the install disk to delete the sources/ei.cfg file. There are a few steps involved in doing that but once you have removed this file, you can select to install Home Premium and use your H.P key to activate it. And there is nothing illegal about doing that. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP DV8t quad OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Retail) CPU i7-Q 720 Motherboard Motherboard Chipset Intel Ibex Peak-M PM55, Intel Lynnfield Memory 6 GB Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GT 230M (1GB) Sound Card IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Monitor(s) Displays 18.4 inch HP Infinity FHD (Samsung 184HT03-001) Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard laptop Mouse Logitech VX Revolution Cooling Zalman NC-2000 notebook cooling pad Hard Drives Hitachi 500GB 7200 rpm (x2)
