cannot repair windows with recovery dvd

    hi,
i have been attempting to repair windows 7 with a recovery dvd (all other methods of recovery have failed), i have booted from the disk as instructed, after windows loads the files and shows the windows is starting screen the laptop stops activity leaving a black screen with the cursor in the center, any help to try and recover windows would be greatly appreciated.
additionally if anyone knows of a reliable program to transfer files from a dead windows hdd that would be great.

    regards Pizza

Were you able to boot from win7 install or recovery dvd? Is this the standard win7 system repair disc or from manufacturer?

So the laptop starts booting from recovery dvd. Before any dialogue displays ..... it freezes. Correct?

booting from a windows 7 home premium 64bit recovery dvd,
the screen show loading windows files with the bar across the bottom, get past this stage and shows the windows logo saying starting windows then moves onto the next screen which is black with the cursor in the center and just hangs there doing nothing

So even from DVD doesn't work(?) Is DVD fine? (test on another machine).

Does this work? Command Prompt at Startup
Or are you able to enter "command prompt"?

I don't think it works... you don't see the dialogue.
