Has a Windows 7 update removed good features?

I installed Windows 7 and have been generally impressed and pleased with the changes. I don't know about the technical aspects, so such things as the ability to 'snap' windows into certain sizes and the new task bar previews are the main focus of such positive comments.

    HOWEVER...

Unless I have unwittingly changed some settings, a recent update has changed several things which I do not like (and would like to change back!!!).

    1. When several windows were running under one programme, eg several internet explorer windows were open, you could see a small preview of all windows by moving the cursor onto the programme icon in the task bar; this has now changed to just a literal description of what it is preceeded by an icon corresponding to the relevant website/programme. This is terrible! The whole point of the preview is because it's usually unclear what you've got open, and now some are all but indestinguishable!

    2. When you 'snap' a window it used to show a transparent preview of how the window would be resized; it's now a distinctly uncool blue haze.

Any help would be great. I hope to God these aren't permanent updates as they are definitely two (or more!) steps backwards.

    Cheers!

It has nothing to do with updates (unless you downloaded a graphics driver. Check Windows Update history. Advice: Don't download drivers from WU.)

I suspect your Aero has become disabled. There are a few causes and we can help you fix it. Hopefully with minimal effort.

To troubleshoot Aero, right click the desktop and choose personalize. Near the bottom should be a troubleshoot Aero link.

If that's not there, let us know. Take a screenshot of Windows so we can see. You can use Windows snipping tool. Start menu search box, type snip. It will show up.

Please fill in your system specs with at the very least, graphics card and motherboard, in case we need to help you with drivers or whatnot.

Right-click on your taskbar and choose properties and look at the options before you, I'm sure you will find something just needs adjusting to regain the thumbnails you're missing

    Thank you Torrentg!

It fixed itself after running the trouble shoot aero programme.

    Awesome!

You are still able to open multiple windows of IE.

Just right click the taskbar (or whatever it's called now) on the IE logo. A slide up menu will appear. You will see a list of the sites you are visiting or have visited, but at the bottom will be a plain IE logo. Select that and another clean IE window will open!

No need to bother with the Jump List. All you need to do is middle click to open a new instance of any app pinned to the superbar. If perchance you do not have a middle mouse button, SHIFT+LEFT CLICK will do fine.
