    Desktop freezes on boot-up

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - M11x-R3, 16gb RAM, Samsung 840 Pro SSD

This has been happening randomly over the past couple of weeks. On boot-up the desktop looks normal but the mouse-pointer turns into an hourglass when on the taskbar area. If I left-click on the desktop it greys out with the shortcut icons visible behind the veil. My only option is to hard power-off. Most often, the next time I boot up everything's fine, and there's no complaint from the system about Windows not having shut down normally when I hard powered-off.

Glary says there's nothing wrong with start-up.

Look in msconfig and see what you have in Startup and in NON Microsoft Services. Also look in Schedule and see if any thing is scheduled at Startup. This should help.

    Thank you for your reply.

I've got a long list of items in both those categories, all ticked. Shouldn't they be?

Sorry, I'm completely out of my depth here.

I can't get any response out of the paperclips, either in Quick or Advanced Reply, either in Firefox or Chrome. I'll see if links will work. Sorry if it's no good to you.

    Sorry I don't do photobucket.
Where are you having your problem with the Forum method. Maybe I can help.

The paperclips won't activate for me to add attachments.

As it happens, the freeze-on-boot-up problem has not recurred for nearly 2 days, so I won't waste any more of your time for now. Maybe I'll be back

Thank you very much for trying to help me.

If you need more help we are here 34/7.
When you tick on the paper clip you should see one of these.

Tick on Browse and then select what you want to upload and tick on that. Then tick on Upload; wait for it to complete Uploading. Then go to the paper clip and it should be there. Tick on that and it should show up in your post.
Try it a few times and you will figure it out.
