Remove icon from quick launch toolbar

Did you try "right clicking" the icon and select "Unpin this program from taskbar"?

FYI, the "Quick Launch Bar" is no longer available by default, but can be added by following the instructions at the following site;

Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

Right click the unwanted shortcut in Quick Launch area, select Delete.

That's not a Quick Launch icon, in fact your screenshot shows no Quick Launch toolbar at all. That is a taskbar icon for a running application.

Check settings on that application; usually if an application is designed to show information on notification area it has an internal setting to disable taskbar icon.
