Windows 7: Can I make a partition for storage?

Ok. step:
5. In the middle pane, right click on the empty unallocated partition or volume and click on New Simple Volume. (See screenshot above)



So I do this to the 30GB unallocated partition that I created correct? Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm totally blind.
