    system repair not working

I suddenly dropped my laptop while working from that moment on my laptop is not working properly,it says it should run System Repair and it does not boot to the OS as well. When i perform the repair it says it has not found any issues. But when i try to boot is says it should repair the system, but it does not work.I can format the C drive but i have some important data on C.So is there any possibility of transferring the Data to an external drive in the Repair mode as it gives an option to open the command prompt.
If there is any option to do that can u guys kindly let me know how to do it.Thanks in advance guys
