windows 7 stuck in startup repair

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit is stuck in startup repair and it says it can't automatically fix the problem. I used the instructions in one of the threads here about how to use the regback to try to break the loop but it didn't work. I tried to boot with a disc and do the upgrade option to keep my files but it said to restart it inside of Windows. Is there anything else I can try other than a clean reinstall? What started the problem is we had a power outage, after that the computer wouldn't come on, so I changed out the power supply. The computer would power on but nothing happened. Turns out the motherboard was dead. I couldn't find a motherboard with the same socket type so I changed out the motherboard and processor. Thanks.

i buddyclm, welcome to the forums.

i think you have answered your own question, " Turns out the motherboard was dead. I couldn't find a motherboard with the same socket type so I changed out the motherboard and processor."

Because you have installed a new mobo and processor the chipset wont be the same as your old setup. so when you boot the drivers will not be the same and you will either get a reboot loop or dropout.

can i ask. 1. have you backed up your data? if yes. then i suggest that with any computer upgrade you complete a fresh install of windows 7.

if no then i would suggest you pull the drive and try to recover your data by docking the drive to another computer. once you have recovered your data then again. complete a fresh win7 install and transfer your data to the fresh windows 7 install.

That is what I ended up doing last night. I docked the drive to another computer, backed up the data and did a fresh install of Windows. Thank you for the reply.

Hello, I have a Samsung laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and AMD A6 Vision processors. I use it for gaming and schoolwork, and up until yesterday it worked fine. Yesterday,...
