Password to Windows does not hold

I am a sole user and administrator. Some repair work was done on my computer (replaced hard drive). On return I found that the system was no longer protected by a password.

I therefore set up an new one and the system confirmed protection. However, when the system starts Windows no password is required. I have tried a number of times to re-protect, all with same outcome.

    Ideas anyone? Please!

What happens if you remove the password, restart and then add a new/different password back?

I cannot remove it, as it no longer seems to exist despite my efforts. I have been using Option 1 in this tutorial to set up the password for me as admin/user. Maybe that's not the right way, does the forum think?

Go to your start menu and click RUN, then type in control userpasswords2 and hit enter. In the box that opens check to see if "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" is checked. If it's not, check it and click apply, then log out or reboot to see if it fixes your issue.

Did that and the box was already ticked, so used Control Alt Delete, leaving old password blank and inserting and confirming the new. So far it seems to be working OK. Thank you.:)

Weird. Glad you got it working.
