I can't find the 7 desktop in Explorer when in XP on my dual boot

When I'm in 7 I can easily access the XP desktop using Windows Explorer. But I haven't found a way to be in XP and access the 7 desktop from File Explorer or whatever they call in in 7.

Sometimes I find it necessary to drag files from one OS to the other, I can get it to go one way but not the other!

Am I looking in the wrong place or isn't it accessible from XP?

    Where are you looking.

It will under \User\yourusername\Desktop on the Windows 7 partition.

    Hi Ztruker,

I agree that where it "should' be.

But that folder only exists when I am in Win 7. If I look there from XP the desktop folder is missing and doesn't show up anywhere for other users either.

    Thanks

Boot to Windows 7 and right click a folder on your desktop and select properties. Look at the location. That's where your desktop has been moved to. It may also be under administrator in C:/users.

All the folders say C:\Users\Tinsby\Desktop The Admin Desktop folder is empty when I look there.

Makes no sense to me, that location is clearly there when I am booted to 7 but it's gone when I am in XP.

Not the end of the world but it does make me wonder why it works one way and not the other.

Post the same screenshot from Windows 7 that you posted from XP.

    That is very strange.

All I can think of is do you have XP setup to show hidden files and folders?

Does user TINSBY have "administrator" rights on the XP machine?

I see that you have both an ADMINISTRATOR and TINSBY user on your Win7 setup, suggesting TINSBY is just a "standard user" on Win7. Have you done the same thing in your XP setup?

Probably have to be an "administrator" on XP do have rights to view the Win7 desktop for a user on the Win7 system's system drive.

I think dsperber may be right, except that none of the other folders should show up. Failing that, while in Windows 7, go to users/tinsby and right click desktop, select include in library and create new library. Then see if it shows up while in XP.
