Windows 7 Starter - Start Menu "Default Programs" button

Hi, I recently fixed my laptop from not booting at all. The problem was, I dual booted my Windows 7 Starter with Ubuntu using a partition, I made another partition to try to allocate more memory to my Ubuntu side and I got an error on boot up that said "Error: Unknown filesystem Grub rescue>". I fixed this and deleted the dual boot but now when I boot up into Windows (as this is now the only OS) on my start menu where it used to say "Default Programs" now says "Default Programs command object for Start menu". I can't help but think this has something to do with the huge mistake I made but I was wondering if there is a way I can fix this?

I've attached an image of what I mean in case you don't understand. I hope someone can help me out. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Problem with "Search programs and files" in Start menu.
This started a few weeks ago, don't know how or why. If i go to Start (globe on lower left), and in "Search programs and files", e.g. type "car", it gives me the info essentially in triplicate - it lists: "Control Panel (21)"; "Documents (1786)", which lists 5 files; "Pictures (1786)"...

Start Menu "Shut down" button puts PC to sleep
This just started a couple days ago and I can't figure out why. I haven't installed any new software or messed with any relevant settings that I can remember. As the title says, clicking Start -> Shut Down puts it to sleep. I've checked the Power options in Control Panel and all of that looks...

start menu shutdown button has "!"
through the control panel I have the "shutdown button" set to "switch user". I have just noticed that somehow it has changed the option all by itself to "shutdown" with a yellow shield and exclamation point. Going back to the control panel start menu options, it still says "switch user". However it...

Start menu -> Shutdown Button - "shut down" and "sleep"
Hi. Start menu -> I can only see shut down, or sleep, depending on how it's configured, but to access other power options I have to click on the small white arrow to the right of the power button. So if the default setting of the big button is shutdown then it's a hassle to choose sleep because...
