Wireless mouse & keyboard changes way PC goes into Sleep mode

I am a first time poster here and I'm afraid I will have to go into a lot of detail's in order to explain what is happening. What I want to be able to do is use a wireless mouse & keyboard on my computer and have it go into Sleep mode when it is suppose to. The computer is a HP 1360t, running Win. 7 Home Premium with a ASUS VN247H monitor.

In Power Options I have these settings:
Turn OFF Display after 5 mins.
Put Computer to Sleep in 10 mins.

In Advanced settings:
Hard Drive OFF in 15 mins.
Sleep after 10mins.
Hybrid Sleep OFF
Hibernate Never
Turn OFF Display 5 mins.

When I have a wired mouse & keyboard hooked up to the PC everything work's perfectly. Start a test at 10:00 with the monitor screen showing my Desktop. At 10:05 the screen will fade to black for 5 to 10 seconds,than it will come back up and the screen will be a solid blue color with a small black dialog box in it's center that reads "HDMI1 No Signal". Than the screen will fade to black again and it stays OFF. The little white ON lite along bottom right hand corner of monitor turns amber. At 10:10 the computer goes into Sleep mode and I have looked in the Event Viewer and verified that the computer is in Sleep mode. If I change the settings to Turn Off the Display in 10 mins. and go to Sleep in 15 mins. everything goes down right when it is suppose to.

Now I hook up a new Logitech wireless mouse & keyboard and still using the same settings as above, this is what happens. Start test at 10:00. At 10:05 the screen fades to black, than it comes back up blue in color and with the same dialog box in it, than fades to black again, than it comes back up showing my Desktop and stays up. At 10:10 it goes thru the same sequence of events but this time when the screen fades to black for the second time it stays Off. Than at 10:15 the computer goes into Sleep mode right on time. Same thing happens if I change settings to Turn Off the Display in 10 mins. and go to Sleep in 15 mins. For some reason the computer cannot turn the Display Off and keep it Off on it's first attempt and because of this, every thing is set back 5 mins. from when it is suppose to happen.

With the wireless mouse & keyboard still hooked up, I change the settings to Turn Display Off in 2 or 3 mins. and Sleep in 5 mins.. Believe it or not but every thing goes down right on time and the computer is in Sleep mode in 5 mins. I would like to be able to use either the 5 & 10 min. or the 10 & 15 min. settings over this setting.

Things I have tried:
1. Tried a different monitor. No change
2. Moved the wireless adapter that plugs into computer to different USB ports on both the back and top of computer. No change
3. Used another new Logitech wireless mouse & keyboard. No change

I have looked at the tutorial on the Tutorial Forum that lists things to try when troubleshooting this type of problem but I am not sure what I should try next. Is there a setting some place that I need to change to fix this? Any and all suggestions are very much appreciated and I thank you in advance.

Have you checked in Device Manager for a device driver conflict?

Did you load any software which came with the new USB devices?

I do not know what I would look for in Device Manager to determine if there were any device driver conflicts. Not that smart when it comes to how computers work. I did go there and looked at the Properties for the mouse and keyboard and it said they were both working properly. Is that what you meant? There are check markers in the boxes to allow these two devices to wake the computer, which I think is probably the correct setting for these ?


As far as loading any software that may have came with the new wireless mouse & keyboard, all I can tell you is that when I plugged the wireless adapter into back of computer, I saw a popup down by the clock that something was being installed and than it said something to the effect that your USB device is now ready to be used. Other than this, I have not downloaded any thing else that I know of in regard's to the wireless mouse & keyboard. Hope this answers your question?

If your still unable to find a solution, post back and we can continue to troubleshoot.

Good morning. I used the Command Prompt method to do these test's. Using the wireless mouse & keyboard, and the settings are Turn Off Display in 5 mins., Put computer to Sleep in 10 mins., started test at 10:00. At 10:05, right after the computer tried to put the monitor into power saving mode and it came back up, I went into Command Prompt and it read Wake History Count 0.

Started all over again, and waited until after the 10 min. mark and the computer has now put the monitor into Power Saving mode . Went to Command Prompt and it again read the same, Wake History Count 0.

Started over and waited the 15 mins. for the computer to go into Sleep Mode. I moved the mouse to wake computer. In Command Prompt it now read's:
1. Wake History Count 1
2. Description USB Root Hub
3. Instance Path: USB\Root Hub20\4&de50838&0
4. Manufacture: Standard USB Host Controller

I was hoping that we would see something at the 5 min. mark when the monitor is suppose to enter a Power Savings mode but does not, but does so after 10 mins. What changes between the 5 and 10.min. mark that allows the monitor to go down and stay down. And if I change setting's to Display Off in 3 mins., and Sleep in 5 mins., everything happens right when it is suppose to.

Do you think it would prove anything if I tried moving the little wireless adapter to all the USB ports in the back and on top of the computer? I did try looking at the settings in the ASUS monitor, hoping to find a way to possibly turn off that little popup that show's up when monitor tries to go down the first time. But it show's up on the second attempt also and the monitor does go down and stay's down so that would seem to indicate that is not the problem.

I don't have a clue as to what to try next, but that's why I'm here asking for help. And I do appreciate your help. Do you have any other idea's John?

Did you go through the other two tutorials and try different settings? The timer settings may be in conflict.

You could try just one wireless device at a time to see if there are any changes. Go into the tutorial titled, "Devices - Allow or Prevent to Wake Up Computer" and set the mouse and keyboard, both or one at a time, to not wake the computer. Then wake the computer with the power button after each test. Try turning off the screen saver. Maybe something in the Aero settings. Look in the monitor's power management settings to see if you can adjust something there. This is a new one for me.

I'll be thinking about this tonight, will probably have nightmares. LOL

Maybe some of our other members will have more suggestions.

I'm sorry but I am having a very hard time getting my reply back to you to work. Will try again.

I have never used the Screen Saver function. I am going to return the new wireless mouse & keyboard tomorrow and try another one. I do have a new wireless mouse and will hook it up with a wired keyboard and see what happens. I did look in my monitors menu options but saw nothing to do with power options.

I saw in the tutorial that you sent me to where it said you should have your hard drive set to turn off at least one minute before you have your computer set to go to sleep. I know nothing about how a computer works but to me turning off the hard drive stops the computer from working, and I do not want to do something and not be able to get it back to where it was. What am I missing here.

John, sorry this has taken me so long to respond to you. Hope it works this time. Will not be able to do any of this until I get back from town tomorrow afternoon sometime. Will let you know how it goes.

I was unable to do anything on the computer Monday afternoon because my Internet Provider was having major problems. Still had them this morning but finally got back on the web late morning.

I have done a lot of different testing today, both on this computer, and also on a Win.XP system I had put into mothballs a couple of weeks ago. It and its monitor are over 7 years old and after running it for a couple of hrs., I set it up with the wireless mouse and keyboard and watched it go to sleep. It also can not turn the display off at the designated time and keep it off. Put the wired mouse and keyboard on it and it works perfect.

Tested both of them with a wireless mouse and a wired keyboard and got the same results. Tested with screen saver on and off, same results. Even unhooked each of them from the Internet, same results. I had the 1360 plugged into one of those surge protectors that also has a small battery in it, so that if your electricity goes off suddenly, it will run your equipment long enough for you to turn it off properly. I plugged the PC directly into a wall outlet, same results.

I do not know enough about computers to feel comfortable in making changes to all the various settings so I believe we have chased this problem about as far as I can go.

This has got me as stumped as much as it has you. Although, I have never had to deal with anything like this before.
