    AHCI computer hangs

    Hi to all!

me as the most of you is using Windows 7 with so much fun! I do have a little problem, don't know why actually, this is why i'm here asking for help. First of all here is my hardware configuration:

Asus P5Q PRO (latest bios, waiting if Asus is ever going to release the EFI also for my motherboard lol just like happened with P5Q Deluxe, anyway)

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
    4 GB DDR2 800
    Nvidia GTS 250
    Sata HD 250 gb

In bios options if I select AHCI i get faster performance and system responsiveness, but from time to time,it could happen anytime,i get complete hangs up so i have to hard reboot my pc. I tried EVERYTHING,also Intel sata ahci latest driver for my motherboard and nothing works. This happens with both 32 and 64 bit of Windows 7,and it doesn't seem to happen if it's set to IDE (which definitely makes my computer less responsive). Thanks in advance to anyone that will help me :)

I'm beginning to thing that it's the hardisk getting insane,it's the oldest hardware component in my pc now.

    C:\Windows\Minidump

Upload the latest two or three of the minidumps in there to Rapidshare and post the link here. You can .rar them to make them into one file to make it easier. We'll have a look.

There are several others that are having issues with Asus P5Qs and Windows 7. Have you tweaked your BIOS at all, or are you running default settings (except for AHCI)?

i can't seem to find minidump on my system o.o by the way it just hanged while i was writing this lol

kegobeer no tweaks made to my bios, everything set to default exept AHCI. I have to say that overall performance experience could be better than what I get,it looks like there's something wrong. Often i get a sort of slow down and lag especially when i'm listening to music. On the other hand on every other system that I've installed Windows 7 on even with lower hardware than mine,it works flawlessly. Maybe it's just a placebo effect.

No, I don't think it's a placebo effect. I think the drivers for the Asus P5Q are crap.

it looks like it's due to crappy drivers yeah. For instance i get also audio stutters during playback, even though i installed the latest Realtek HD drivers. Gotta wait for better times i guess :) thank you!

Among other things lately i've played with Snow Leopard on my pc and Rebel EFI (you're gonna say:what were you thinking? i love my Windows 7 desktop yep) and it worked fine,no problems like these ones. So i definitely think it's due to not-so-good-yet drivers.
