Modified picture files

Is it possible for the "modified date" of a file to be inaccurate? Scenario, a picture file is stored on a usb flash drive. Can it be modified just by plugging the flash drive into a computer? Thanks in advance for the help!

It would help if you could describe your situation in more detail. Plugging in a flash drive will not change the modification date of any files it contains. But there are a number of utilities that can change the date so it cannot be fully relied on.

Thank you for your help. I found a flash drive with pictures on it and I'm just trying to see if the modified date has any validity to it. I don't know what constitutes as modifying a picture or how the modified date changes.

Windows doesn't seem to be consistent with creation nor modified dates. I think the act of opening a file, like looking at a picture, will be a modification.

Copied files change modified date
I've hit a showstopper in Windows 7 for which I have so far been unable to find a workaround. I maintain my websites by duplicating all updated files in my local public_html directory tree to a new location, and then using FileZilla to upload only those files to the web server. This has always...

backing up new files with old modified dates
Which batch command and switch should I use to backup a new file with a old (sometimes very old) Date Modified date in a way that avoids backing up files unnecessarily? I've been using xcopy with the /D switch in my backup.bat and just noticed it's missing my new files that have the old dates.
