Upgrade to 7 from Vista....HD space has disappeared

I upgraded yesterday from Vista to 7. All seems to be working great, except that I noticed my HD now only has about 51G available (out of 160G). That was a huge jump.

I have not been able to locate any "windows.old" folder, but am sure there are some remnants of the Vista install somewhere.

Any ideas on how I can get my space back?

Have you ran a Disk Cleanup?
Disk Cleanup - Open and Use

Also check to see if System Restore got a little *jumpy* with the backups
Open Start->Right-Click Computer->Properties->System Protection (In the left panel)->Configure
Post back the amount of Disk Space is being used

Suggest you run WinDirStat ( WinDirStat - Windows Directory Statistics ) to see what is on the disk. Note: that will not show the shadowstorage. For that you have to go into elevated Command Prpmpt and type: VSSADMIN LIST SHADOWSTORAGE.

PS: I would be interested what you find out. Your numbers are kind of unusual.

Well....I just ran the Disk Cleanup utility and found for the first time any Windows files discarded by installation. Once removed, those files, combined with a few others, freed up about 7.5G. I also removed all previous shadowpoints (though I never really created any). Disk usage is about 950MB. Now my C:\ storage is at 73.3 free out of 147 available.

Was that about normal or less with Vista?

If I remember correctly, I had over 100G available....but I didn't think to check before I began the upgrade.

    Windirstat data on the way....

After reviewing the WinDirStat report, it seems that more than half the space is taken up by the User account (me)...with 20G of music and about 8G of video downloads. Other docs and whatnot make up the 42.5G used space.

    Windows takes up about 10.5g

Thanks for the help, guys. I guess I'll just have to utilize my xHD a little more for music.
