taskhost.exe unknown process in my laptop

Hello! I was checking up my laptop and saw an unknown process named: "taskhost.exe" in the task manager. I closed all programs (except for task manager) and the process is still there. I thought it was the process for task manager. I try to end it. Nothing happens. The task manager didn't exit. May I know what was it? Does ending it affects mp PC performance? Thanks!
