Frequent Desktop Computer Freezing

I have a desktop that has been freezing on me way too often. It will always freeze on Candy Crush, regularly on YouTube, and rarely on Minecraft. Most of the freezings occur when I'm on Firefox. There will also be times where it will become frozen on the desktop, with no windows open or right after I reboot it.

Booting in Safe Mode seems to prevent it from freezing. It's also decided to make Windows Explorer stop working whenever I go to Start->right-click Computer->Properties.

I've tried multiple things to fix it (virus scans, MbAM, Spybot, CCleaner, defragmenting, Memory Diagnostic Tool) and nothing has worked so far. I figured that I needed to update the GPU due to the cause of most of the freezings, but that actually made it freeze more. I am at a loss and could really use any advice on what to do next.

This error seems to show up just a few minutes before all the crashes occur: "The AODDriver4.2.0 service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the path specified."

Also, these errors show up sometimes, too, only less frequently: "DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server: {random numbers and letters}"
"The server {random numbers and letters} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."

I Googled these errors and it looks like other people have had freezing problems when the first error I mentioned occurs in their Event Viewer. I'm thinking that this might be the culprit. There are a number of solutions being provided, but I think I'll wait for another helpful reply in case the other two errors are contributing to the freezes.

Clean Boot didn't work, either. It froze after 10 minutes on Firefox, so now I'm pretty sure it's the error(s) in the event log causing the freezings. As for the security software, it is currently using AVG AntiVirus Free Edition 2014, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium, and Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Did you find a solution? I'm having the same issue.
I found a "patch from microsoft" which i thought would work. Installed it after i re-installed windows, but it didn't help...
Sometimes it even freezes when i run a virus scan - It seems to always freeze at 60%, but when i look where it was, it's never in the same spot.
(Yes, it froze even before i re-installed AVG)
