Windows 7: "Cannot lock current drive" (to do chkdsk scan in cmdprompt).

Hi Derek.... All the link shows about cmdprompt is the instruction on orders of command...meaning letters after chkdsk C:/...which is either f or r or b, exactly like in W7.

I still did not see chkdsk started and completed in cmdprompt like the way sfc /scannow is done.

You wont see it like an SFC scan because you are going to have to reboot.

If you want to see it in the cmd window it has to be a non system disk like this flash drive,

So the correct answer to my question: "BTW, can chkdsk be done in cmdprompt in W8?" is NO, "....because you are going to have to reboot".

I have always wanted to be able to do chkdsk scan in cmdprompt because I think it would be faster. For a moment I thought W8 was the answer. Apparently not.

BTW, what does locking the current drive mean? If I log off and log in again without restarting, is my current drive locked?

I gave you the correct answer, it just depends on whether the disk is a system disk or not.

What other disk is scanned in dskchk that can be done in cmdprompt like sfc scan is done?

How about my external HD where I keep all my back-ups?

You have to specify that disk like I did with the flash drive above, it will show in the cmd window.

So yes your external not being a system disk will show like an SFC does in the CMD window.
