    Print folder/file list

    This question was asked and answered in this previous thread;

    Directory List

    I haven't gotten the suggested Command Prompt (changed from Users to Administrator) to work.
    DIR E:\data\ /s > C:\List.txt

    I have only one hard drive on my laptop and want to print a list of my Documents Folders and Files.

    I tried several variations of the commands shown in the previous thread but received error message "cannot find the file specified" and subsequently "the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect".

    I just had a partial success: the list of the entire C: drive was printed out in the command prompt box (List.txt appeared in my C: directory, but couldn't be opened, something about parameters).
    In the command prompt, I had substituted MyDocuments for "data," but that didn't get me the list I wanted of just the Documents directory.

    dir c:\users\YourUserNameHere\documents >list.txt

    Substitute your user name for YourUserNameHere

    Thanks for responding. Your suggestion doesn't work for me.

    It's easy to get print-outs of folders, even without using the command prompt.

    I'm trying to get a print-out of the files within the folders.

    I don't see the distinction. Perhaps you could be more specific. When you say "doesn't work for me" that's close to zero information.
