I installed Windows 7 over an Xp and during the install, the computer froze, the only thing left to do was to do a cold reboot and hope it comes back but guess what it didn't so I start reinstalling the program and this time it came up with a Windows.old and Windows.old00. Tried searching everywhere for my files but can't find them anywhere can someone please help me???

What happens when you double click Windows.old?

Folders Show up in both Windows.old and Windows.old00, but there is nothing in the folders they are all empty.

Don't forget to go to Control Panel | Folder Options and enable the display of system files, hidden files, etc. There's a few options that I regularly change there from the default after a new system is installed, for visibility purposes.

This is why you should always back up your files. You possibly have lost everything.
Also you cannot upgrade xp to 7, so your files would not be kept anyway if you installed 7 over xp....It says that on the windows 7 media box/cd/instructions.

Hello Doug, and welcome to Seven Forums.
In addition, see if you may have hidden protected operating system C:\$INPLACE.~TR and C:\WINDOWS.~Q backup folders available that may contain your files.
