Ask for password and keep loading

    Hi all,

i would like to ask if it is possible for windows to ask for user password while at the same time keep loading windows in the background.

I know it can be done because somehow i had accomplished this in my pc but now it stopped (i have no idea why) and i can not repeat it.

Thank you for your time reading this.

    Regards,
    the_observer.

What do you mean by it? When you just turn on the computer when Windows asks for user/password for the first time?

If so, no, it cannot be done. Windows will load everything it can up to the point where it needs more info to continue. Drivers, and services will start, caches will begin filling up and the like, but nothing past that. The desktop, startup programs, per-user things and the like cannot possibly load before you actually put on your password.
Reason is simple, at that point cannot possibly know what user account to load. Remember that it's a multiuser system (even though you might be using a single user account), and since everything past the login screen is user-specific or login-time, it either cannot be determined for which user, or is just too early before login.

Yes you are right and all these are logical and how it should be.

But for some time now after i messed with user accounts and password (eperimenting to be able to login to my account via internet and remote desktop simultaneously while someone else was using it so i could adobt the procedure to my wife's pc and be able to login to her pc while she was using it) my pc, when i turned it on was stopping at the password screen while in the back it was loading everything (for my account). It was really cool because if i was going e.g. to drink water after i turned it on the pc was ready as soon as i returned and entered my password having loaded everything and i didnt have to wait to load startup progs e.t.c. !!!

By the time Windows asks for a password, the OS and global drivers have already been loaded or will be in the process of being loaded (in the background). What loads after that is the user session and is based on who signs on. User options like the desktop, themes, programs and user mode drivers can't be loaded until a user signs on. How the programs are installed (administratively or user mode) and the type of driver will determine when startup programs run. Some of the global startup programs/drivers can be marked as a "Delayed Start" and some can be removed all together since they will start when needed but you must be careful on your choices. Some may be REQUIRED for the PC to function.

If you have programs and drivers that are used by all users, these should be installed as administrator. Some installers will ask if the program is for everyone or just the user currently signed on. If they need drivers, the drivers can't be loaded until Windows knows who has signed on.
