Telephone call informs me that my pc has been hacked ???

Got home today to find that my mother had answered a phone call from the # 707-706-0870 stating that MY laptop had been "hacked". She said that whoever was on the other end of the line did not sound like they were from this country. She said it kind of sounded like they may have been from India.Just wondering if anyone else out there has ever experienced this ? Also, the caller said that they were from "laptop support ??? Any input on this is much appreciated.I'll check back tomorrow night.Got another 12 hour shift in the am...Gotta get some sleep for now.As always-thank very much.

    This is a scam.

They try it on my friend and me (regularly).
We've both used computers for years (he only uses Arch Linux).

Tell them that you are a computer tech, if they'll hang up straight away you can be absolutely sure it was a scam.

Some of the guys here had fun with those characters. They let them talk and theorize for a while and then they told them that they were running Linux. Too bad I never get such a call. I would boot one of my Linux and ask them to find the virus.

Agreed; it is a scam for sure. I got a phone call from someone about a month ago give or take as well from someone claiming to be from microsoft saying that my computer was sending viruses or something stupid like that and i knew it had to be a scam so i just hung up. Usually i know a scam when i see/hear one; but; some of these hackers, etc; are starting to make it harder and harder to tell if something is legit or a scam as they are getting smarter. Bottom line; if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. on another note; wth is going on here; something keeps adding this skype stuff to my posts all the sudden. Im gonna have to do a scan for malware etc

I always ask the caller for his/her phone number so I can call them right back as I am in the middle of our dinner and if he or she calls back I will reach thru the damn phone line and choke the shit out of them.
