Easy TRansfer shows "2days, 3hrs" to complete - HELP!

I can't believe it keeps adding time rather than counting down! Can I cancel the process midstream without data corruption? I'd appreciate a quick reply if possible since i've been without my computer since about 2 and need to get it back up and running. THanks all!!

Garfers mate some more system specs would help and also where from and to are you transferring data?? IE if you are coming from a 32 or 64bit machine to a 32 or 64bit one
System Info - See Your System Specs

I don't know what you can do about the data that has already transferred but if it were me I would be stopping the transfer because that rate of transfer is simply ridiculous.
Again if it were me I would do an uninstall of the software and a reinstall because it could be just a bad download / install.
The data already transferred I am fairly sure when you start again when it gets to a file already transferred it might just ask if you want to overwrite the already transferred file or if you want to skip it - that means you have to be there while it is redoing the transfer of course.

You could try running these first

Hi & thanks! Sorry about not giving specs - I was kinda panicking! I was in the process of upgrading my 32bit xppro machine with 1TB hd, 4gb ram to 7 ultimate and was trying to be a good girl and follow the steps so I wouldn't get into trouble!! I called in to MS to double check a few things and they suggested using the tool for my files etc. When I got up this morning it showed 4 days and whatever hours so...again, trying to follow steps I called in to ask one simple question "I don't see a cancel button so can I cancel easy transfer without file damage or corruption?" You'd think you'd get a quick yes or no, right?? WRONG!!! 1 hour later I"m still on the phone with tech support and no answer!! So, I said I gotta get back to work, call me when you figure it out. That was 3 hours ago. Needless to say, I stopped it and I think my data is ok. I haven't checked. But I am installing 7 right now and since I backed up everything beforehand I'm not that worried about my data but I'll let you know if there's anything unusal. But I can't get over the fact that no one at Microsoft tech support could answer if canceling the process would damage my data!!! Thanks for the info and I'll post better info next time..

At least you have it all backed up that is the main thing garfers. I am surprised that MS couldn't give you a quicker answer but at the same time like any IT service it sometimes depends on who you get on the other end.

I still think the software should transfer much much faster than it does and a reinstall would go a long way to resolving that issue. I think there are others ways of slipstreaming data but I am not real sure as I have never had to use it. But will check it out - time to go to work.

Just so you and anyone else that's interested knows, once I hit the red X on the Easy Transfer window, a message popped up that said something like "canceling transfer" and after a few secs it closed and actually deleted anything that had been transferred to that point. I read a few really old posts about ET and it seems that it's savings files to some kind of proprietary format so that must be why it erases partials. Again, that's my take on comments posted here from 2010 so not sure if MS changed the process or not since then. I would hope so! And, as far as taking forever to get the one answer I should also mention I told the girl "with all due respect, I understand you are reading off a computer screen from your support database but it really shouldn't be so difficult to answer if my data will be damaged. It's a simple yes or no. Maybe you can suggest to your boss that they add that question to the FAQ's" THanks again for everyone help and if you have some time to kill - call MS and ask the same question I did and see if they know yet!! LOL
